台湾与大陆大学英语课堂文化的对比研究

A Comparative Study On College English Classroom Culture in Taiwan and Mainland China


Abstract:Language learning is based on a certain cultural context. In the process of setting a good learning context, classroom culture plays an important role both in teaching and learning. Classroom culture refers to the interaction among teachers and students and the fusion of values between them as well as classroom surroundings. Taiwan and Mainland China share the same kind of mother tongue, but college English classroom culture in Taiwan differs from Mainland China because of some certain reasons. The study is going to compare the differences between them and propose some suggestions to the construction of college classroom culture. Since teaching effectiveness is influenced by teaching expectations, attitudes, materials, and physical environment, the study will mainly focus on these aspects. And the study will investigate students both in Taiwan and Mainland China by means of questionnaire.

The result shows that Taiwan and mainland China have certain similarities in the classroom physical environment, the choice of teaching materials and the degree of students’ participation in the classroom. In terms of teaching norms, teaching objectives, and teaching methods, classroom culture in Taiwan has some implications for the construction of Chinese classroom culture.  

According to the survey results, this study puts forward corresponding suggestions for schools, teachers and students. For schools, the advice is to equip classroom with advanced technology and create a better English learning environment; for teachers, manage to involve students into the class, attend class regularly, enhance professional qualities and enrich class with more extracurricular resources; for students, get more involved in class, not to care too much about others and search for extracurricular information actively.

台湾与大陆大学英语课堂文化的对比研究

摘 要:语言的学习是以一定的文化环境为基础的,英语学习也需要良好的文化学习环境。在建立一个良好的语言学习环境的过程中,课堂文化扮演着重要的角色。课堂文化不仅包括师生间的交流和价值观的融合,也包括课堂的布置以及物理环境。同为非英语母语国家,台湾与大陆虽然使用同一种母语,但因为某一些原因,大学英语课堂文化存在一定差异。本研究将对两者的差异进行比较,并在分析原因的基础上对大学英语课堂文化的建设提出一些可行性的建议。大学英语课堂教学效果受教师教学目标、教学态度、教学材料、学生课堂参与度以及课堂物理环境等因素的影响,所以本研究将从以上几个方面展开调查。同时,本研究将以台湾高雄师范大学和杭州师范大学为例,通过调查问卷的方式对台湾和大陆的大学生进行调查。

研究结果表明,台湾与大陆在课堂物理环境、教学材料的选择及学生的课堂参与度上有一定相似性;在教学规范、教学目标以及教学方法等方面,台湾地区的课堂文化对大陆课堂文化的建设有一定借鉴意义。根据调查结果,本研究分别对学校、教师、学生提出一些建议。对学校,为教室配备高科技设备,营造更好的英语学习环境;对老师,提高学生的课堂参与度,按时上下课、不迟到早退,提高自身教学能力,补充更丰富的课堂学习资源;对学生,积极参与课堂活动,不过分在意别人的行为,主动搜索课外学习资源。
