The Contrastive Study on Listening and Speaking Parts in Two Different Textbooks for Grade Seven


Abstract:Nowadays, English becomes more and more important as the tool of international communication and information acquisition. Therefore, cultivating students’ comprehensive ability in English communication is a major goal of English teaching and one of the main ways to achieve these major goal is the teaching activity by using textbooks. Textbooks are the core and carrier of English teaching activities because they decide the content and organization of English teaching. Listening is one of the main input in language learning and speaking is one of the main output in language learning. And these two language skills are difficult for Chinese students to acquire well. Therefore, listening and speaking courses play an important role in English teaching. But teachers still have different opinions about textbooks using. And the different versions of textbooks make this question more complex.

This thesis will study the listening and speaking parts of textbooks which are used by students of grade seven through the complete comparison and analysis about the surface-layer structure and the deep-layer structure. Surface structure includes compilation systems, content selections, column design, and illustrations, and deep structure includes language knowledge, language skills and learning strategies. The People’s Education Press(PEP) version and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press version will be chosen to find different features and the complementary advantages of these two versions.

The results reveal that these two sets of textbooks use topics as clues to design listening and speaking classes, which are rich in pictures and texts and give students opportunities to improve listening and speaking. However, there are some differences in the surface structure and deep structure between the two sets of textbooks.

Based the findings, several suggestions are put forward to English teachers, which may help teachers use textbooks more properly and creatively to improve teaching quality and efficiency.

摘要:在当今时代,英语作为国际交往和信息获取的工具,变得越来越重要。因此,在中学的英语教学中,培养学生的英语综合能力成为课程的主要目标之一。在教学过程中,达成这些教学目标的主要途径之一就是使用教材进行教学。英语教材是英语教学活动的核心和载体,因为它决定了教学内容和教学组织形式。听,是语言学习中的一种输入性行为,而说,是语言学习中的一种输出性行为。对于中国学习者来说,这两种语言技能很难被掌握得很好。因此,听说课在英语教学中显得尤为重要。但是,每个老师对教材处理方式的见解不同,不同版本的教材的出现使得这个问题更加复杂。

本论文将选取人教版和外研社版两套教材,就其七年级听说课部分,采用表层结构和深层结构相结合的模式进行对比分析。表层结构包括编写体系、内容选择、栏目设计和插图设计;深层结构包括语言知识、语言技能和学习策略。本论文旨在对比分析这两套英语教材在七年级听说课中的异同点。

研究结果表明这两套教材都以话题为线索设计听说课,图文并茂,给学生提高听和说的训练机会。但是这两套教材在表层结构和深层结构上存在些许差异,本论文并据此提出优势互补的意见建议,使一线教师能够更有效地运用这两套教材。
